General Maintenance / Re: Seat cover install tip!

Thanks, I have been reading up on the Cyanoacrylate Glue and Activator spray and it seems rather straight forward. I am assuming that you used the Glue on the cover and the activator spray on the seat pan. After looking at the seat pan closely, I can see that either way will work but was wondering which way you used. I would like to avoid any mistakes if possible as this stuff is a one time deal. Thanks again.

For me the easiest way to change it was to lay bike on its left side, like it is taking a nap. I also used a little Teflon tape just because I was a little nervous about relying on the small o-ring sealing it. If you have everything close at hand when you pull the old one out you loose very little fluid. On mine the stock fan came on about 210 and shut off at 195 ish. Now it comes on at 190 and shuts off at around 170. I use an infrared temp meter but I was not very attentive after the install so my readings are a little off but the point is it comes on and shuts off sooner. Which is what I was after.

Over the years I have made many a motorcycle seat fit my buttocks but the seat is some sort of mid evil device on the 690. The seat base is problematic being it is fiber based as it does not like any kind of staples I have used. So short of blowing holes in it with my air stapler, which is the problems Seat Concepts had, you have sparked my interest in using a form of super glue. So I was wondering where you acquired the materials to do your seat.
Thanks

Oil & Filters / Re: 10w60 Oil Alternatives
« on: January 07, 2015, 08:20:29 pm »
The 10-60 is available from Amsoil. I just ordered some for my 690 and 800XC. I have used their oils off an on for years without any problems or surprises. Any oil that is close to the manufactures recommendation should be fine as long as it has the JASO MA/MA2 designation on the container.

The other issue is the availability of the brand you wish to use.  So it is nice to see more choices are out there to pick from. Here is another one to consider.

Lighting & Electrical / Re: KTM 690 Enduro Wiring Diagram

One of each, Black will be the ground and the multi colored one is the hot. I believe the hot is red and black.  You could use a bolt on the bike for a ground  but for me it was easier to use the one in the harness.

Sweet Mods and Accessories / Re: Changed triple clamp setting.
« on: December 17, 2014, 04:01:08 pm »
There are lots of variables here. Make sure the sag, front and rear, is set correctly for your body weight first. If either end is off your bike can push or knife into corners. Changing the triple clamp setting can/will add to this problem. I like my enduro bikes to handle a little quicker when trail riding but my street bikes need to be neutral. All of this can be changed with spring settings, fork placement in the triple clamps and stuff you have loaded on the rack or tank. Your suspension the most important part on your bike and is also the most overlooked. So Rather than get into some long explanation here is a link that explains it with very little pain to the brain.
