I had the same thing happen on my 2014 690. I went with the Uni foam filter and grease around the base. Since then, I've been on numerous very dusty rides without any sign of leakage around the filter. It amazes me as well that KTM can't get this right. I've got the same issue on my 15 1190...

Yeah, it's alot larger than the KTM wind screen. If you use your 690 for hard off-road, then the Madstad is probably not the best choice. I have a KTM 450 EXC for hard off-raod and I use my 690 more as an Adventure bike, so I wanted a wind screen to keep me warm if needed. It worked great in low 30 degree temps on a recent trip to Colorado. And right now, for the Texas summers, I removed it from the bike. It's easy on and off, so it's seasonal.

The Madstad site seems to only have a version for the 690 Duke ( http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/sc.7/category.11244/.f ). Is that the one you purchased, and does it fit easily on the 690 Enduro R?

Yes, I purchased the one for the 690 Duke and it fits fine. No modifications, and easy to install.

The wind screen is a Madstad. http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/sc.7/category.11244/.f It has alot of adjustability, and does a great job of knocking the wind off. We rode over to Telluride, CO and there was still snow on the ground, and at 31 degrees it was a necessity.

I bought my 690 to replace my 990 for exploring. For a light weight adventure machine, the 690 is the only option for me. I just returned from a week of exploring in SE Utah and Colorado. We trailered the bikes out from SE Texas and averaged 300-ish miles a day exploring the area. On the days when we rode the "big bikes" the 690 was perfect for me...

Sweet Mods and Accessories / Madstad Wind Screen
« on: November 23, 2014, 09:41:57 pm »
Switching from a 990 to the 690 as my 50/50 exploring bike, I decided to add a wind screen for the 50% road work. I went with the Madstad screen. The tilt of the screen is easy to adjust while stopped and the height has about 4” of up-down adjustability with an allen wrench. We did about 220 miles today and I think I’m really going to like it…

I do like the lights mounted lower, alot better than up high like I first had them. The lower position is less distracting in your field of view as you ride.

Ron, your light looks good. If there's another Montana 1000 next year, I plan on checking it out in person...

The light is a 10" Rigid SR Series Combo. It's only 36 watts, so about 3 amps draw, alot of light for such a small current draw. http://www.rigidindustries.com/led-lighting/91031
I recently decided to try it mounted lower, so I fabed up another bracket that bolts up to the lower triple clamp..

690 Discussion / Re: Now I a need help
« on: October 18, 2014, 09:23:59 pm »
I sold my 11 990 a couple of months ago, and recently bought a 14 690. So I have a good idea of the difference between the two. A few guys can make the 990 look like a motocross bike out in the ruff. I'm not one of them. For me, the 990 was a great over the road bike, with the occasional foray into the ruff. I just never got comfortable off road with the 990, mainly due to the weight. I ended up dropping the 990 and tearing my bicep tendon picking it up (bike unloaded). During my recovery from surgery for the repair, I decided the 690, weighing 150# less, was the way to go for my riding plans in the future. The 990 is alot more comfortable on the road than the 690, a whole lot. Off road, there's no comparison between the two, the 690 is pure confidence. All you need to decide is what you're going to do with your next bike.

Since my 690 will be taking the place of my 450 as my Dual Sport ride, I pulled my Rigid light and GPS off the 450 and installed them on my 690. Also sprang for a new Wolfman tank bag…

Blank slate... Sold my 990 a month ago and picked up my 14 690 last Friday. I can't wait to get it broke in.
