Well after reading about excessive oil consumption , from the rings not seating. i came to the conclusion that if the cam chain tensioner was not working right, that the engine would rock back and forth. bad for the rings, power and valvetrain. so i switched to rotella t3 to help the rings seat and installed a manual cam chain tensioner . no more squeal and i have regained the power i lost . When i pulled the chain tensioner out it was soft and would squease right in. once the tensioner fills with oil it should stay pumped up. at least all the other motors i have worked on have. So if you have a new bike make sure your dealer put mineral based oil in it when you pick it up and it wouldn't hurt to change it at 500 miles as reccommended, but refill with mineral for another 250-500. just to make sure the rings are good. And even if you dont think you have a issue with the chain tensioner i would change it ,or at least check it often. KTM's quality control sucks on this one. other bikes/quads last the life of the bike in most cases. Almost all ktm's have this issue some more severe than others.
