Dualsporting on 17s
« on: February 03, 2014, 11:15:36 am »
So, I've had Perelli Scorpion ATs on my stock 21/18" setup pretty much since I bought the bike about a year ago. They do pretty darn good and are just starting to get that chicken strip after 6k on them. So im about to drop about 2.5k on a 17" setup and im thinking about keeping the enduro touch to this new setup. I think I'm gonna try some Heidenau k73s. Anyone tried that tire? And if not, what tire might u go with?

Turns out the Behr rims I scored on eBay were brand spanking new, and had new rubber on them SO... gonna have to wait till I burn them off till I try new tires.
Lookin' at the following tires:

Heidenau K73s

PerelliMT60Rs

Maxxis Presa Rear Supermoto Tyres

Goldspeed Rear Wet Supermoto Tyre
Which one do you like? I'm still leaning towards the K73s, even though they supposedly get only 3K in their lifespan.

The 21" front is a great one for going over many large rocks and such.  A 17" even with nice dirt tread won't do the same.  There is always a compromise.

Here's an article from Motorcyclist on the Hidenau K60; my current favorite.

Good article. Thx for the info. Gonna take my first long trip on the east coast here in a week or so. Gonna stay on the pavement this time I think. However, I just may look into these tires depending on the itch I get to go offroad in the future.

Ordered another MT90 rear last night. Went with a 150 this time. By the time this one burns up the set will be toast and I'll try something else.   :P

When you mount those Heides eat your Wheaties prior and call for backup muscle.  Personally I would not mount them unless they were going on tubless wheels.  Having to repair a flat tube inside a Heide on trail is a most difficult task.

Word up. Im gonna do just that, convert my tubed rims to tubeless. Gonna use some acrylic silicone and 3m sealant tape. That way I can just roll around with a plug kit and some co2 cartridges. That's way better than dragging spare tubes and spoons with ya.  :P

Another alternative to get your wheels sealed for tubeless tires.

Hmmmm. $99x2= $200 and shipping is probably around $50 so ur looking at $250 for something I got done for about $50. I'll say this though, it does look professional.
