Scotts Steering Damper

CO Rider - do you think the 690 would benefit from a Scott's unit?  I am contemplating it, but WOW are they pricey for the 690!
I don't even have the bike yet, nor ever ridden one like it! :-)   Should be fun

Hi Truck11,

I heard the same thing and had the same thought as you.  Having now ridden it (at least so far) it doesn't seem like it really needs a steering dampener, at least for commuting.  I did some freeway 60-80 mph driving and it was solid (way more solid than my 525 with a steering dampener).  I do think that steering dampeners are a neat product and worth it for the dirt and the long-run, but I've got higher priorities for now such as replacing the plastic bash guard.

I just talked to the parts guy at Surdyke Yamaha http://www.surdykeyamaha.com/ (looks like they are located in Osage Beach MO - where ever that is!)
20% off and free shipping on all online orders.
The Scott's Steering Damper for the 690 is not yet up on their site (SO I can't get the 20% off  :()... however........     I asked him ever so nicely if he would be willing to put it up on their site and his response was... "Absolutely!"
Trying to get them to put up the doubletake mirrors also!

Stay tuned!

DRblackbird just picked one up used for about $300.  I'll see if I can get him to post his impressions when installed.

I've still got to get a pipe, racks, rotopax carrier, bash plate, and shorty levers to pay for!  I commute 60 miles a day.  So Far, even with MT21's the 690 hasn't had ANY headshake.  The WR250R, for all it's vaunted smoothness, headshook at about 75.  If I ever get out west, and plan to ride the dunes, I may look into it.  But until then, I've got more pressing uses for $700.

...can you share what you got. KTM twins has a sweet pair of two-fingers levers but I believe they only work on the 2012 models & not my 2013 (not sure why I haven't researched yet) but let us know what you run into w/your 2014....

Yeah, preliminary research hasn't yielded many results.  I've been told that Magura hydraulic clutch lever will do--but I haven't seen any shorty options beyond the $$$ version on KTM Twins.  If I find something suitable I'll post up about it.
