Not directed to me but I know the answer.
If you leave the petcocks open there will be fuel transfer between the three tanks. This doesn't sound so bad but the fuel level in the front tanks is higher than the rear, which could cause the rear tank to flow fuel out of it's vent. I'm not sure why after filling this problem doesn't continue, but it doesn't. I'd guess it has to do with the size of the vent in the tank caps as compared to the size of the opening when the cap is off. I say this because I have forgotten to open the petcocks on a trip and my low fuel light came on. I continued to ride until I got to a town (I knew reserve could make it). Once there I opened the petcocks but the level didn't seem to change after several minutes. I pulled the caps off and after a few minutes I could see that the fuel was moving to the rear tank.
The only other issue you could have with this setup is just the opposite. Fuel shooting out the vents of the front tanks. This is caused by not paying attention when installing the seat. There is a seat support very close to the rear fuel vent line. If not positioned properly the seat can pinch this line. This is easy enough to avoid but I did it once when I was in a hurry.
To date this is the best mod I've done to the bike. I was really getting sick of the limited range. I live far enough out of town that I could not make it two days back and forth to work on the stocker. Fueling up daily was a pain, at least the girls at the gas station are nice!
