G2 Throttle Cam

So I just put a G2 Throttle Cam on last night. Cost me $70 from KTMtwins. It's the "throttle tamer". Has a 400cam in it.

You know how the low-speed (Less than 30mph) stuff can be real jerky and uncomfortable? This takes it away. You'll still need to modulate the clutch a bit, but not nearly as much. I love it so far. It comes with a detachable encap incase you have threaded bar handles. Easy install, good purchase.  ;)

It is worth noting that the same effect can be done via the throttle map using TuneECU 08-13 and I'm sure 14 if/when the program can be updated for the new system. In fact that is all the on-board selector does in settings 1-3 with the stock map, no difference in fueling just 3 different throttle input vs throttle valve setting maps.

That's cool if u can get the same effect of the G2 via TuneECU. That'd be cheaper obviou$ly. I went the Vortex route to overcome my EFI issues. Richening up the circuit definitely helped reduce the idling problems, but the herky jerky **** I think comes predominantly from the wide-ratio gearbox mixed WITH the crappy EFI that the bikes come with. I don't know for sure, but when I looked at the difference of the throttle tube cams it looked pretty indifferent. Only a few mm of difference. However, the initial pull of the G2 leaves some play for the user to have leway, and not that sudden jerk you get by blipping the throttle. Had to change up my start-off technique a bit. Gotta hear the rise of rpm's before I start clutching out. Tell you what, a tamer throttle combined with a hydraulic clutch = some muy bueno riding.  8)

I think the 2014 throttle by wire setup solved the "Herky Jerkiness" of the throttle.  Mine's smooth, top to bottom.  Of course, I have to put up with the abs and an ECU that apparently won't accept a new map.  You take the good with the bad, I suppose.

I can't say anything about the G2 and the price isn't too bad but mcnut is on the money.   Another item to think about to control herky jerkiness is front suspension compression compliance.  If the bike is bouncing over little irregularities your hand can move ever so slightly so maybe the G2 helps.
 For the bikes up through 2013 a simple reprogramming of the EP throttle map transforms the bike.   And so does the under seat switch.  My 2013 690 has a modified throttle map relative to RPM and smoothly catches up with the twist grip.  The FI is richened up down low with the O2 engaged.  Set on the SOFT position there is no herky jerky and pulls strongly.  And I suspect in the STANDARD position it's also under control when looking at a comparison of the maps.  The ADVANCE position map is another animal altogether because when you twist the throttle any amount the e-throttle follows suit.  On the pavement I can live with the SOFT and in the dirty stuff I prefer the SOFT for now.

Another thought about the throttle, G2 Vs. Map, is that with the stock under seat map switch it is an easy 1 min job to change between 3 different throttle maps, no tools or disassembly required. My research indicates that all the switch changes if using OEM maps are the throttle maps, setting the switch to 1 - soft, 2 - performance, 3 - standard all use the same fueling and ignition maps, only the throttle differ (the exception being the "Low Quality Fuel" or "0" setting).
 
I'm in the process of evaluating the available handlebar switch, I think it's imported by TrailTech ($79.99) but can be had from JD Jetting or Sicass Racing. Best price is JD Jetting for 69.99 and is stocked.

While this switch does not list the 690 as an application the plug is correct and the switch values (resistance) match the stock under seat switch. I will post my findings in a ECU/map thread soon.

Bruce, please let us know about the switch.  I have one with a Trail Tech name on it that I thought was going to work.  It came with bullet connectors, is three position, and has a kill button.  Last night I ohmed it out and conclude that it's not what I need.  I have the oem connectors for the task however.
