I just talked to the folks at KTM Twins - their redesigned unit should be ready in about 2 weeks.  "about" the same price as the older version ~ $155.  Billet cap, 1 piece filler design (like the CJ designs one)

A lot of the problems on the 690 can be found in EU legislation.

Smog filters, can from hell, fuel cap. The list goes on. To give you an idea of how invasive the euro union legislation is...

They want to ban garden gnomes because they pose a health and safety risk (trip hazard) to mailmen.

School crosswalk attendants...not allowed onto to the road with the children they are supposed to protect (they may get run over)!

Nice old cobble stone streets in medieval villages? Concrete over them, your crutches or wheelchair cant get over them safely...

The list goes on. So given the crap ktm have to deal with, it's a miracle the bikes are available at all!

Btw, the latest thing proposed from the eu is that a motorbike must be maintained in its original form...don't change the color, no graphics, no change of can. No changing original tires, no adding anything that didn't come on the bike... :o :o
