Texas Hill Country ~4/18-26
« on: April 13, 2014, 12:19:54 pm »
Hey all,

I'm planning a two or three-day ride through Texas Hill Country at some point between the 18th and 26th of April.  The route isn't set in stone, nor are the dates, so I can be flexible as long as the two days fall within the 18th-26th window.

The route will be about 85% dirt roads.  Mostly class 2, but a couple class three sections thrown in.  There are also a few river crossings along the route.  Since I don't have saddlebags yet, we'll likely stay in rooms in Del Rio and Junction--I'm sure we could double-up on rooms to save a bit of $.

At this point, TenFootGlass (Patrick) and DrBlackbird (Gary) have both committed to come.  Anyone who wants to come is welcome to join.  This is not an "event."  No tee-shirts or pot-luck dinners will be provided. ::)

Hello Rusty,  At this point in my life it is not practical to come from California to Texas for a 2-3 day ride. Maybe some day.  If you lay out the route in Basecamp so you can load it into your Montana do you mind posting the file? And if you have a Spot keep it running and let us know your shared page. That way those of us who can't be there can enjoy your trip in absentia.  chip

I'll be loading it in base camp as soon as I get my taxes done >:(.

I need to get a spot.  Especially while I ride alone up in Canada this summer.

Sadly, I've not gone yet...and things don't look good that I will.  Patrick's 530 EXC is still in surgery and my mother-in-law is coming into town tomorrow afternoon. >:(.

I leave Sunday for Maine, where I'll be for the next 6 months on a work assignment.  But don't worry, I'm bringing the 690 along.

Anyone wanna go explore Northern Maine and Canada? ;)

Maine, now that's a beautiful state. I think you will have to get some kind of off road park tag if I remember correctly for off roading . Cadillac Mountain and Bar Harbor area is very scenic. I rode through Maine last year went in to Canada  and up to Nova Scotia...if you have a few days off I highly recommend Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia, not dirt but it's like the Cali coast, Colorado and the Smokie mountains all combined into one.  It takes a full day just for Cabot Trail and another day or two to get there from the US. I will be looking forward to your stories!
