Kriega Bag and Rotopax Additions
« on: April 14, 2014, 12:38:33 pm »
So I bought some more Kriega stuff. I've been looking for a front bag setup for awhile now. It was either gonna be the GL Diablo or the Kriega US-5. Wasn't sure how the Kriega would fit cuz I've never seen a pic with one mounted up front. So I call BritKit out of New Orleans and I talk to Michael (sales rep). He said the head designer owns a 690 so it's only logical that all their products are gonna fit. Made sense to me, so I bought a tank mount apparatus, a US-5, toolbag, a Rotopax 1gal fuel cube, mounting apparatus and a bunch of extra straps + clips.

Got the tank adapter fitted the way I wanted to. Had to shorten up the front straps to pull it forward. I don't really like the rear hooks underneath the seat that I used, but I made the best of it. I'll probably end up changing it in the future.

Fits pretty good. Had to swap straps a couple of times to get the best. They're ended up being alot of snipping and trimming of straps, but I didn't want excessive amounts of nylon flailing about. The 5L bag is just big enough to fit my tool bag and a bottle of injector cleaner.

Had to drill a couple of holes in my rack to hold my Rotopax mount for the bracket.

Fits nice and tight.

Had to put a few layers of Gorilla tape on the plate to keep the fuel cube from vibrating.

The installation is fairly simple, just take yer time drilling those holes out. Gotta get them right the first time  8)

This will be how I roll on a daily basis. 5L bag w/tools up front and fuel cube+20L bag on the rear.

I like that Kriega 5 up front.  Do the straps running to the rear annoy your thighs while you ride?

Also, you don't need to drill the Nomadic Rack to hold a Rotopax!  The plate adaptor is only needed if you're attaching the Rotopax to a weak surface (such as the drywall in your garage or the sheet metal of an automobile) or if you don't have access to the backside of whatever you're mounting it to.  For a solid aluminum plate, you only need to attach the mount via the two bolts.  Like this:

This will also solve your rattling issue, since the Rotopax will lay flush against your rack.  Rotopax.com has a pdf instruction sheet on their website: http://www.rotopax.com/images/PDF/mounting_instructions.pdf

It's lame that Rotopax doesn't supply directions WITH their mounts--rather than supplying them on their website.  It's a great product though.

To answer yer question about the tank straps bothering the thighs:
After my little 1600mi trip this past week I realized that no, they don't bother me. I squeeze my bike with my thighs when I'm on the road and stand up when I ride Offraod. Now if I were romping on a gnarly trail I'd definitely keep standing cuz those straps would probably chaff u up pretty good.  :P
