What is the best upgrade path for a 50/50 690?

(Okay so we know that 50/50 is really more like 90/10 for most riders)

I voted for upgraded seat, but by "upgraded" I mean add an AirHawk pad.

I've got to say that your footpeg recommendation was one of the best mods that I've done for the bike.  I like riding it way more with the additional control.  Just watch out for them when your pushing it!

For me, since I was about offroad first, street second, I put real hand guards on mine, then the bash plate. I also put some doubletakes on it, since the stock ones decided they need to vibrate to new positions. I bought some luggage from the for sale forums that's on the way and should be installed before the end of the week.

Next is a seat concepts seat install,  and my last big mod that I feel is necessary for making it my perfect 50/50 bike will be the Lynx. After that I'll probably drop an FMF q4 or something on it. The performance really isn't bad, but I'd like to ditch our thermo reactor 100 lb exhaust can.

Someday I might consider getting the suspension resprung and valved to be more progressive and less soft and wallowy,  but I really don't know if it's worth it for my all arounder bike.

Real handguards is tempting alright as I have already broken one of mine!

Heck yeah, first time I laid mine over, I caved in a hand guard. I bent it back out and rode the rest of the day, went home and ordered a set of real ones. I just went into a corner too hot, grabbed some brakes, over shot it, came to a total stop, then fell over. Haha.

The bashplate is like a condom; it spends most of it's time as dead weight, then it's suddenly priceless.

I came down hard on top of a 12" steel pipe the other day.  I was very glad not to have a flimsy piece of plastic under there.

Lol!  You aren't lying there.

When I still had my 450 e/xc, I came off of a single track in colorado one year. I nailed a boulder front wheel first, flew over the bars, landed on my back, found my bike across the dip I had gone into laying on the trail facing the direction I had come from, and when I got to it the bike had smashed a  side cover along the way. It drained oil out and smashed the flywheel. Had it not been for my skid plate (which was drastically bent) I may have required a lot more than a new flywheel and a cover. Lol

To me it's even more important on the 690, since is has no frame cradle to help protect it

Tires my friends.  All other priorities are secondary.  It all begins with tires.

My 2 favorite mod's are the Seat Concepts & the FMF Powercore.

I'd say tires and bash plate...don't give much thought to the seat as I'm on the pegs 90% of the time.

Tires, you need more road oriented or full dirt mode.

If you are a 50/50 rider you are most likely going to hit rough stuff where the plate will still be needed.

After that I'd say do the suspension properly. At least a re valve on the front and springs to suit your weight.

Honestly I think the stock bike is damn good for 50/50. I think tires would be the first thing to change. I didn't bother with changing the seat - I've ridden the bike for hours at a time with a pair of $8 padded bike shorts and that works great for me. If your definition of 50/50 includes rocky terrain or high speeds offroad, your stock bashplate won't last long.

This list is different for every rider. I think KTM hit the nail on the head for the important bits (engine, suspension etc) so it's just a matter of comfort-izing it for your needs.

Hmmmm. I'd go 1) bashplate, cuz protection keeps the bike running. 2) seat, cuz if ur into getting ur ass pounded, you can go ahead and keep that damn OEM seat! 3) bags, i went with Kriega soft bags. Love 'em!
