Hello from Upstate NY
« on: February 16, 2014, 06:36:49 pm »
Hi, my name is Mitch. I live in Rochester NY. I bought a 2009 690r about 3 weeks ago. I am hoping to use it as my adventure bike. Sadly, I haven't had a chance to ride it yet because of the weather but I have been doing a little wrenching on it. Nothing major but fixing little things (blinker lens, headlight bulb) and changing fluids. Next on the list is checking the valves, new tank bolts and new fuel filter.

Welcome to the forum Dogfarm,

Good luck with the tank bolts.  There's a pretty good video walking you through it step by step over in the "What Broke" section.  http://690enduro.createaforum.com/what-broke/tank-bolt-replacement-walkthrough/.

Be sure let us in on any insight you gain from the process.

Rusty, thanks for the pointer to the tank bolt procedure. I just ordered the upper and lower bolts from the guy in Serbia that is in the vendors section of ADVRIDER. The PO gave me a set of the mudguts upper tank bolts. If anybody wants them, I can give them up for $20 plus shipping.

The weather cleared enough for me to actually ride to go out for a ride. Wow, what a fun bike! Throttle seems a little twitchy to me but that could be from my experience riding bikes with a lot less power.
