General Maintenance / Q's about valve adjustment
« Last post by Streeter on January 20, 2018, 02:25:19 pm »
I'm in the middle of a valve adjustment, and have a couple of questions.    Both of my intake valves are tight, but the exhausts are fine.    I've already adjusted one intake in the past.     In my experience with other bikes, usually the exhausts need more attention.    Is this common on the 690?   Just curious.

Also, while I have it apart, I'd like to check the rocker arms.    What do I check?    The roller has a slight bit of side-to-side movement, but does not move on it's axis.    I can't really think of anything else to check.

And just a comment:   I bought two new shims at my local Harley Davidson dealer.    They are much more convenient than the KTM dealer, had the shims in stock (for a Vee Rod) and two only cost $10, which I thought was a good price.   I think the shims are the same size that my old Kawasaki ZRX 1100 used, too, but since that bike was only imported for two years, none of the Kawasaki dealers ever had them in stock.

Thanks!

690 Pics / Re: Heidenau rear tire on my 690

That's about 5100 miles which isn't bad for an offroad bike. My OEM Pirellis made it about 3000 miles and were toast. The front wore very strangely with angles showing on each knob. There's lots of tires out there with different tread patterns and compounds. The search goes on.

I put a set of these on my 640 when we went up Inuvik a couple of years ago and was not impressed with the longevity. They performed well on the pavement as well as the gravel however after 8200 kms on the trip the rear was just about finished. I will be trying the Mitas E-07 on my new 690 and see what kind of mileage I get.

Ride Announcements / July 14-15 2018 Ride the Sierra National Forest
« Last post by coarsegoldkid on December 24, 2017, 02:39:49 pm »
For all you California KTM 690 riders this event is right up your alley.  The Stewards of the Sierra National Forest will be presenting their 9th annual Membership Fundraiser Dual Sport event.  Mark your calendars for July 14-15 2018 to enjoy some of the best riding on the Western Slope of the Sierra.  There will be hard way, easy way splits for the Dual Sport riders and for the third year Adventure Bike routes that I have selected.  All routes are followed via GPS tracks and roll charts for the Dual Sport routes, what route you follow is entirely up to you.  Bring a friend for a great riding experience.  Fuel will be available at the pre-selected lunch stop each day.  We stage out of the Elks Lodge in Oakhurst, Ca on Hwy 41.

You can visit, like, and follow the Stewards of the Sierra National on Facebook.
The Stewards website is SOTSNF.org.  Email is info@sotsnf.org
Registration for the event will begin as soon as the info is posted.  You can also register the weekend of the event.  In the meantime mark your calendars so you don't miss it.
I hope to see my fellow 690 brothers and sisters there.
