Introductions / New Member with a '16 that just died
« Last post by NC690 on May 23, 2017, 04:31:03 pm »
Hey all! I'm glad I came across an Enduro specific forum. Sorry to stop in and say 'hi' under such needy circumstances, but I promise I'll stick around and contribute to the group as I can. I've been poking around the internet trying to find some answers about my situation. No dice. First of my many KTM's that has ever let me down. Real bummer.

I have a 2016 with only 700 miles, always ran perfectly. I recently relocated on coastal NC so haven't ridden the bike in a few weeks. Took it out yesterday. Started right up, ran strong for 15 minutes just like it always has. Just as front wheel came down from a power wheelie it immediately lost power so I rolled in neutral to a stop. Bike has good battery power, lights on, horn will beep, engine turns over strong, but she just won't start. Has this happened to any of you? Any ideas would be great. Seems electrical/electronic, but it's beyond me what it might be. I'm 4 hours from the nearest KTM dealer so feeling kinda SOL...

Once she gets rolling again, would love to find some other eastern NC riders, if you're out there....

Thanks!

Tires / Motoz Tractionator Desert H/T

I put on a 140 on the rear plus matching front and really liked these tires on the KAT.  They were great on all the off road sections and gave amazing traction on blacktop when pressing the turns.  For my dualsport riding applications on my 690 this is now my favorite tire.

PS: I installed them with Tubliss front and rear and added Slime since our ride was unsupported.

OK this is the latest update on the Mefo Super Explorers:  They are a most excellent tire if your primary application is pavement, gravel, and light sand.  They are most excellent on black top with amazing grip on extreme lean angles.

Racks & Luggage / Re: Rear Rack Weight Capacity for Fuel?

Hey guys-Noobie on this site but but running one of the 1.75gal Rotopax on a SWMotech rack and the weight broke the rack.

It took almost two years, but it broke.

I don't put anything larger than the 1 gal Rotopax on the back of the bike now.

Riding a 2012 if anybody's wondering.

690 Pics / Heidenau rear tire on my 690
« Last post by kenfrazier on May 07, 2017, 10:23:40 am »
In my quest for the best 50/50 dual sport tires for my 2016 690 enduro, I decided to try a brand suggested by a 690 rider friend of mine, Ron in Illinois. I was tired of the OEM Pirellis that gave me the creeps at speed on pavement, especially in corners. The rear wore out quickly and didn't impress me in sand when riding at Green River Utah. So I slapped on a set of Heidenaus and presto. Traction and stability on dirt/gravel and sticky on asphalt too. I haven't tried them in deep sand yet. I did balance them and they feel great at 70 mph. Plus they don't hum like the Pirellis. They are stiff and I set them by the heater vent for a few days before the instal in December. Take a look and give them a shot.

Racks & Luggage / Re: Does a 2017 need the beefier tank bolts?
« Last post by jkroes on May 05, 2017, 06:43:07 pm »
I just replaced them on my 2017. Comparing the stock bolts of my bike to earlier years and they look identical. Not saying they are just as weak but they don't appear to be built any differently. I'd replace them just to be safe.

Also, I agree with truck11. I bought mine from Perun Moto. They're a great product and were awesome to deal with. They also have awesome step by step instructions on their website!

Introductions / Moving from Denver to Texas
« Last post by kenfrazier on May 03, 2017, 10:28:19 am »
I just found this site and since I'm a 2015 KTM 690 owner/fan, I thought I'd register and check it out. I'm moving from Denver Colorado to Sleepy Georgetown Texas next month and I look forward to a 12 month riding season and some Tex Mex and BBQ. I know I'll miss the Rockies and the drastic elevation and temp changes but I'll adapt. The first thing I'm going to enjoy is the free horsepower that all my vehicles will gain from the lower elevation. I hope to meet up with other Adventure riders down there and explore the Texas hill country. If you are one, let me know. Thanks
