Which tail light is that?
Mine seems to be shorting out and works half the time - may want to look into LED unit.

Why not look at Mosko Moto luggage?   I'm looking at the Reckless 80L system - currently out of stock as they are redesigning it to fit the 690's a little better (fit the fuel filler cap)

Tires / Re: Stock Tires

The Goldentyre GT216 is on my list as well - Ziptyracing www.ziptyracing.com is the US importer and currently out of stock until early 2016 (I emailed them back in late October)
Seems a good combo is the GT216 up front and the Motoz in the rear.
I love the Motoz Tractionator I/T rear so far!

Adventure How-To's / Re: Water Crossing
« on: December 02, 2015, 04:01:58 pm »
The dualsport event I do every June in central PA has a famous water crossing.  Damn kids damn it up and every year it gets deeper & deeper.   I dumped my DRZ400 back in 2007 and it never ran right again!  I did everything to get it dry before cranking it.   Got home and changed the milkshake oil!    Here is a clip of what the crossing looks like and is early in the day before the main group of 400+ riders comes through (Water is clear in this clip)   I now hate water crossing!

How are the FA209/2 organic pads holding up?  How do they compare to the OEM pads?

General Maintenance / Coolant question
« on: November 05, 2015, 08:19:07 am »
When replacing the coolant/antifreeze (what ever you decide to call it) - what is everyone replacing it with?
I used to use Engine Ice on my DRZ400 - but last time I was at the KTM dealer, they suggested Maxima Coolanol.  Thoughts?

Tips on flushing the old coolant?

Sprockets and Chains / Re: optimal gearing
« on: October 26, 2015, 02:19:44 pm »
Does nothing with the speedometer - that is driven by the tires.  So, if you change your tire size, say to a 17 SM size, then you need to mess with Speedometer.
What the 14t gear will do is change your RPM's (at given speed), shift points and MPG's etc.   You will loose top end speed, but nothing too noticeable, unless you do A LOT of highway.
I would stick with 15t if doing highway to gain back MPG's.

I run 14t on the front with no issues or noticeable/annoying noise.  'almost' want to try a 13t

Stock tire, then a DOT knobby, then a dirt knobby (that was crap!).  So far longest lasting knobby is the Motoz Tractionator Enduro IT.
Hate changing tires.

How are you saying that 3,500 & 10,000 miles of use is 'wearing fast'?  I'm lucky if I get 500 miles out of a set of rear tires.  I'm less than 1500 miles and already on my second front and 4th or 5th rear.
:-)

If you go with the Scott's steering damper - it raises your bars enough.

It does have a spark arrestor - However, If you are in the states, it is NOT USFS ( US forestry department) approved.
