General Maintenance / Engine Leakdown Test
« on: December 26, 2015, 12:19:56 am »
Anyone done a leakdown test on a 690? And if so I'd like to know the details plz. For example, what is an acceptable amount of leakdown? You know, all the parameters of the test and what not.  :P

I bought some Heidenau K60s finally. Here's the rear comparison to My old Perelli MT90 Scorpions

And here's a comparison to the fronts

I enjoyed the MT 90s for what they were: 70/30 tires. They did GREAT on road  ;D ... Not so much offroad  >:(
I've only been on asphalt so far with the Heidenaus, but they are even BETTER than the MT 90s on asphalt!  ;)
We'll see what they offer offroad, but they gotta be better than the old Perellis. Way bigger knobs and grooves.
But be forewarned, they are extremely tough tires to put on. I originally bought a 150 rear and actually broke the band while installing it. Bummer  :P
So I ended up buying a 140 rear off of Rockymountain. I bought the original pair off eBay for $275. Expensive tires, but they seem to be worth the $$$

So I finally got my Heidenau K60s on the ol' Pig.

The rear is a 140. I originally had a 150 on the rear but I damaged it during installation. These were the toughest damn tires I've ever had to put on. I actually ended up breaking a band in the bead of the 150. I tried to make it work, but it ended up causing the tire to be permanently out of balance. So that was about $180 down the drain  :P
Live and learn I guess  :'(

This is a comparison of the old vs. new. My old set were Perelli MT90 Scorpions. They were 70/30 rated. Really solid street tires, but not much in the way of offroad. This pic shows both of them as 150 rears.

The front was WAY easier to put on compared to the rear. I am very confident with the Heidenau tires on asphalt so far.

Well, if u got to lean it WAY over to see it you might be straight up burning it non-stop. I'd check the compression from the engine. Is it smoking at all?   :P

Yup, my K60s should be here any day now . I got em off eBay as well. Paid $275 for a pair. Got the 150 rear. I'm sure they're gonna be a bear to mount, but they should be worth it. I too ride mostly street, but I'm looking to more off-roading on my future trips to the Appalachians  :P

Yep, if you dump this bike on the road more than likely your radiator is gonna get tweaked. I went down hard once last year and didn't have my radiator tweaked. Got lucky I suppose. I did have R&G frame sliders though, I think that helped. Not so sure even if you bought the rinky dink radiator braces they sell that it would protect it much if u were to totally dump it on the pavement. I seriously doubt it. I was thinking about scoring a Cox racing shield for my radiator though. A lotta twigs and **** can puncture into ur radiator through the front.  :P

Wind? Riding a 690 down the freeway at +80mph is like the shuttle re entering earths atmosphere. It's a give and take situation. Up to about 70mph, ain't no thang. Beyond that, it's a losing situation as far as comfort goes. That's why I don't push it unless it's necessary. It's a dirt bike on the freeway, whatt'd ya think, u were driving a Cadillac? And yeah, those taller rally style windshields are gross. 😝

I bought a kit from Perun. Good quality. Kinda a bastard to install by yourself. Two sets of hands recommended.... that or don't drink while you install it, like I did.

Hmmmm. I'd go 1) bashplate, cuz protection keeps the bike running. 2) seat, cuz if ur into getting ur ass pounded, you can go ahead and keep that damn OEM seat! 3) bags, i went with Kriega soft bags. Love 'em!

That sounds like a good setup. Can u delve into the RPMs per gearing?  I might get a 16t front if it sounds good. I switched back to big wheeels from the sumo setup cuz u don't get as much rpm band outta each gear. 😛

Meese are dangerous as all hell. I grew up in AK and used to have showdowns quite often doing my paper routes. One Sunday long ago.... it was like -20 or some absurd temp, early in the morning,  I'm struggling to stuff this fat Sunday paper into a screen door and get it to stay. Nothings working, I'm cold, pissed off and about to give up when the all the guts fell out to my feet. I'm really pissed off now, and i commence to pick up coupons and all the other stuff on the concrete. I now have the paper assembled and get ready to stand back up. Uh oh. Face to face with a moose. What i had presumed to be the dryer exhaust ventilation off to my right was actually the moose breathing. It was there the whole damn time! I didn't scare it, cuz it's ears were still up. U know if they're pissed cuz their ears will be pinned back. Get the **** outta there if u see that. Anyways, i was stuck out on the porch for a good half hour before she meandered off. Peaceful encounter, but it doesn't always turn out like that.   :P
