Tires / Motoz Tractionator Desert H/T
« on: May 23, 2017, 10:18:11 am »
I put on a 140 on the rear plus matching front and really liked these tires on the KAT.  They were great on all the off road sections and gave amazing traction on blacktop when pressing the turns.  For my dualsport riding applications on my 690 this is now my favorite tire.

PS: I installed them with Tubliss front and rear and added Slime since our ride was unsupported.

OK this is the latest update on the Mefo Super Explorers:  They are a most excellent tire if your primary application is pavement, gravel, and light sand.  They are most excellent on black top with amazing grip on extreme lean angles.

Has anyone tried the IRC M5B ?  I rode it down in Florida in the mud and sand 2 weekends ago on my KTM 300 and liked it alot.  Rode quiet a few pavement miles and was impressed with the modest wear.

The 2,400 mile update on the Mefos is that they are wearing well and I estimate that they will be done at 4,000.  Tubliss on the rear sealed totally after a couple of weeks from the initial tiny leak of about 1-2 lbs overnight.

Has anyone else noticed how close the bolt on the backside of the mounting strap is to the fuel tank?  Mine is only a cxxkhair away.  thinking about putting some 1/4 " spacers behind the two fuel tank mounting bracket bolts to get a little more clearance.

Thanks for the excellent report Oddfellow.  I have had a pair of Tubliss and the Explorers waiting to go on for at least 3 weeks.  Just had my first weekend off after a solid month of working 6-10 ( redbull is your friend).  Definitely like the MT-43 on my 300 for the gnarly offroad stuff.  The rigid sidewalls on them help them remain stable for those of us who like to banzaii the corners on pavement transitions.

Went ahead and bought the Mofo explorer tires, hope to give feed back in a few weeks as that will be the first thing I do after April 15th.

Be nice to know a source for a ruberized 16.  I have looked online at most of my favorite sights and not located one.

Great report Trailpioneer.  Good to see you still riding (I'm 67) and have 29" inseam.  Going the 1.625" Kouba Link route (in transit).  A little worried about tire rub - more later.

I ordered the little plug to fool the computer from KTM Twins.  I agree simpler is always better and weight savings is better.  But after watching the video doesn't seem like very much weight is saved by removing the canister and associated plumbing.  Nor does it seem that performance is enhanced.  Still gonna do it. ;D

Truck11,
I think no one is answering because they don't know.  Maybe narrow to a specific year.

I have been in the desmogging mode without asking an obvious question - what is the advantage of desmogging ?

Yes, I have been to that site in the past.  However, the only year they listed for our bike is 2008!  Am I missing something?

Other considerations:
1. does the seller have title in hand?
2. do a background check on the seller - I used people smart
3. consider buying new and financing to free up cash for upgrades
