Is this wheel tubeless?

You might want to look closely at your air box.

I think you can reasonably expect 30-40 K miles.  Unless the clearance keeps getting tighter and tighter.

Just did mine today.  Same scenario as above.  Bike has 6600 miles. Tight intakes at .0625mm.  Now all are 0.010mm.  I bought the Hot Cams kit because any dealer likely to have shims in 45 miles away.   I Popped in a new sparker same as OEM.  I agree the task is easier than shim under bucket type valve trains.  I didn't have a problem with the cover but you do have to give it a quarter turn here and there.  I've dealt with more difficult cam covers before.

Truck11, if you have long legs the 690 in soft throttle mode will do well in all but the tightest and difficult trails.  I'm still looking for that trail.

Hardly an enduro, but man is that one sweet pavement ride.

Colorado Rider, I think you just came across an ass,  Feel piety for he has no idea how much fun it is to ride a 690.

Take it from this old man- anger will undo you.  Nothing you can do will train idiots to drive safely.  I'm glad you are safe to ride that wonderful 690 another day.

GPS and Navigation / Re: GPS for the 690
« on: March 15, 2014, 11:24:42 pm »
I have a Garmin Zumo 665 with lifetime maps for use on my BMW R1200RT and the KTM690.  I've ridden through some very rocky terrain with it and it keeps working.  It will show all the trails available on the maps.  Some regions have specific maps with better detail I've been told.  I just use the lifetime ones and Basecamp for planning.  Basecamp has gone through many changes since I first decided to learn it.  I like it.  Others hate it with a passion. No matter what GPS you get you can't beat a detailed paper map to assist you in the field.  I especially like to collect tracks of rides and see where I've been.  I hear that the Montana allows topo maps and maybe a few other functions that the Zumo does not.  The Zump 350 series has a great screen for bright sunlight.

Oil & Filters / Aftermarket Oil Filters
« on: March 03, 2014, 10:03:07 pm »
I find it odd that both oil filters for the 2012-2013 KTM690 Enduro R are difficult to find.   From the HiFlow catalogue:
Oil filers for the KTM "690 Enduro R" and "690 Duke R" 2012-2013 are different than the other years.
HIFLOW use    690 Enduro R 1st Filter 2012-13  HF651
              690 Enduro R 2nd Filter 2012-13  HF155
For KTM690 Enduro R 2009-2011 the HF155 is the 1st filter and HF157 for the 2nd Filter.
For KTM690 Enduro 2014 use HiLow filter "NOT" in Catalog as of 3/3/2014

K&N from the online retailers only list the 1st filter.

Sweet Mods and Accessories / Re: G2 Throttle Cam

Bruce, please let us know about the switch.  I have one with a Trail Tech name on it that I thought was going to work.  It came with bullet connectors, is three position, and has a kill button.  Last night I ohmed it out and conclude that it's not what I need.  I have the oem connectors for the task however.

Those look very cool.  Although my 690 came to my garage used and with shorter aftermarket winkers they are still susceptible to bonking.

I can't say anything about the G2 and the price isn't too bad but mcnut is on the money.   Another item to think about to control herky jerkiness is front suspension compression compliance.  If the bike is bouncing over little irregularities your hand can move ever so slightly so maybe the G2 helps.
For the bikes up through 2013 a simple reprogramming of the EP throttle map transforms the bike.   And so does the under seat switch.  My 2013 690 has a modified throttle map relative to RPM and smoothly catches up with the twist grip.  The FI is richened up down low with the O2 engaged.  Set on the SOFT position there is no herky jerky and pulls strongly.  And I suspect in the STANDARD position it's also under control when looking at a comparison of the maps.  The ADVANCE position map is another animal altogether because when you twist the throttle any amount the e-throttle follows suit.  On the pavement I can live with the SOFT and in the dirty stuff I prefer the SOFT for now.
Don't a just love these bikes.

Tires / Re: MT21 Tire Warning
« on: February 26, 2014, 02:05:49 pm »
Yeah, low psi could be the culprit.  The manual states over 20psi if I remember correctly.  But I usually run 16psi on the dirty parts as a compromise.  My MT21 front did the same thing.  For some reason that single knob doesn't wear much.  D606s wear a bit smoother.  However pavement screws up knobs for sure.  I also ripped bits of knobs off a MT21 rear in Death Valley.  That place has lots of rocks and I managed to get bogged down in deep loose rocks a time or two.  Riding out of them was a futile experience.  I think that's what did in the tire.
