Motion Pro spoons are light & work well. Look on eBay you may find an OEM kit for your 690..

That does not look like a $300 tool kit.. For $300 I would want Snap On tools & more of them! Honestly the stock kit is pretty good with a few extra bolts a rag & some small needle nose Vise Grips thrown in. If your going on a long ride add some tubes & tire spoons.

Nice looking bike & 3500 miles is just getting broke in!

No blink code or warning lights. Its like on cue, as soon as the engine warms up it switches maps & has no power. Still idles fine though.. I have the throttle body out now to get a better look at things & found the vacuum tube for the canister valve was kinked. I'm not sure if that could cause my problem but the valve does tie into the fuel injection harness. Hmmm. I replaced the line & will give it a try tomorrow. Having your bike down & out is the worst guys..

Well I thought I found the problem but after a 4 mile ride today it did the same thing. The temp was only halfway up when it entered failsafe mode again. I'm starting to think it may be an oil pump. I just changed the oil & when I came back from my test ride there was no oil in the sight glass..

Ok, pretty sure I found the problem.. It's a bit embarrassing but if someone out there can learn from this it's worth the post. The air filter was completely plugged. I always clean it (K&N filter) at every oil change but forgot to do it this last time. I think my girlfriend was distracting me.. Anyways, I have the evo 1 air box lid & that lets a lot more air & dust into the filter. Along with a pretty oily filter it starved the engine of air I suppose. I never did get a temp light. So live & learn from my mistake!

I pulled the thermostat & it is good. Opens about 150F. Also pulled the water pump cover & the impeller is good also. It does not spin on the shaft. Sooo.. the cooling system seems to be working yet the engine gets hot within just a couple miles of riding.. This is at about 50F temps.

My 2014 690 will go a couple miles from cold & before the temp gets halfway up the engine goes into a "failsafe" mode where it has no power. It sounds like the timing is retarded also. I'm pretty sure the water pump & thermostat are ok because the coolant in the tank gets hot. It would still be cold if the thermostat was stuck or the water pump wasnt circulating coolant, right? So I'm just fishing for ideas. Lets hear em!

Thanks for the info! How do you think most folks there feel about needing a special license and a permit to defend you & your families lives? Are there just no bad guys there or is the crime rate pretty low in Australia? There has been some talk of the USA doing something similar so I like to hear it first hand how the gun ban is working out for you guys. Thanks again!

Tires / Re: What tyres to get to be able to ride in winter
« on: March 03, 2016, 11:27:42 am »
The stock Rally Cross tires would work good with some short screw studs for frozen turf & a little snow but I wouldn't want to drive on black top with any kind of studded tire.

General Maintenance / Re: Spark Plugs - for a 2014

It's under "technical data" at the back of the manual. Inside plug#NGK LKAR8BI-9. Outside plug #NGK LMAR7A-9. I just use the stock plugs & clean them every few thousand miles.

Great videos Baric, thanks! A bit off topic but I just wanted to know about the gun ban there.. Is it just handguns? Did I read correctly that self defence is not a legal reason to own a gun? Thank you.

It's not a dumb question at all as most bikes have & should a spot to store at least a very small tool kit. Obviously not the 690.. I suppose it would add another 2 lbs. to the bikes weight specs..?  I think it's important to have a kit though & usually throw mine in my back pack which comes with me pretty much everywhere. Bolts constantly come loose on off road bikes & a kit has saved me a long walk home several times. Whether you get a tank bag, fender bag or whatever bag, bring a tool kit in it.

What Broke? / Re: Rear brake pedal pivot bolt bad - 500 miles!
« on: November 22, 2015, 03:04:12 pm »
Funny how riding style affects brake life.. My OEM 2014 front brakes have near 17k miles on the & probably only half worn. I did replace the rear OEM brakes at about 10k miles.

Sounds like your running a pure MX tire..?  Not many folks riding the 690 want to change tires that often!
