Sweet Mods and Accessories / factory big bore
« on: August 14, 2016, 07:35:30 am »
well every since i saw that the 2016 duke switched to a 105 bore x 80 mm stroke.I have been wanting to do a big bore.  I am hoping to install the cylinder and maybe even the new head design on my 2014 enduro. which is 102 mm bore by 84 mm stroke.   the end result should be 718 cc.  So i ordered a head gasket and a base gasket, on initial inspection it appears they are the exact same bolt pattern, holes . ect.  so my only concern is the piston pin to crown distance. worst case i will have a piston made. and i have not checked the cam chain yet.  unfortunately i will be waiting for a good deal on used parts, (watching eBay) so i don't pay full price on something that may not work . I hope to get into it this winter. while the beast is hibernating.

Airbox, Pipes, and Programmers / auto tune issues
« on: September 06, 2015, 04:09:16 pm »
Just wanted to share some thoughts concerning the use of the auto-tuner for the pcv.  I have used a couple different auto tuners. the problem with them is if you just turn it on and ride everytime you let off the throttle or coast it is counter productive since you dont need alot of fuel then it is constantly battling its self.  I am currently waiting on some parts for my new air filter setup, once installed I have a switch wired into my pcv, so i can turn the auto tune on and off at will.  I will find a long straight, turn it on and accelerate steadily letting the rpm's run through the area i'm working on . before letting off the throttle at the end i will switch auto tune off, turn around and repeat.  I will only work on 2 to 3 thousand rpm's at once so i can concentrate on that area .  for instance  first 2000 -4000, and so on . just only set the fuel tables to hit the area's your working in. Once you are happy with it, accept the trims and set your afr's for the next rpm's.   After all the main difference between a dyno tune and the auto tune is that the dyno can keep the engine under load constantly. so this method will get you as close as your going to get , without getting it put on a dyno. I hope to eventually put mine on a dyno, but not until i get a high comp piston , port job, cam ect. until then this will do.

Tires / heidenau k60
« on: September 06, 2015, 03:14:32 pm »
Well needed some new rubber. I ride on road 80% , but am not ready to give up all off road capability. I was debating between the k60 and k60 scout. the k60 looks like it will be a little better off road, i was actually leaning towards the scout. found a deal front and rear k60's on ebay 249. free shipping. could not beat the price. My stock tires were shot after 800 miles , not that i mind running them with low tread but the front end was suffering from head shake.
So hopefully these will last a while. I will post some pict's latter.

690 Discussion / 2016 model
« on: July 13, 2015, 08:06:47 pm »
While at the dealer today we were talking about the 690. My dealer is himself an old racer, and he was saying that while at a meeting with ktm, they were telling him that 2015-16 at lattest will be the last year for the 690.  although it will live on as a husky 710. ktm is looking to replace it with a v twin . he said around a 800 cc.  I just hope husky keeps the ball rolling.

Sweet Mods and Accessories / cams
« on: July 01, 2015, 02:02:01 pm »
Has anyone used any of these cams?.  i am thinking about the 243 or the 267 . the 243 looks like it should be a overall power increase, without losing lowend. but the 267 is 5000 plus power. any thoughts  http://www.agap.se/Sales-KTM-690_4_201311.pdf

Sprockets and Chains / optimal gearing
« on: May 10, 2015, 03:00:42 pm »
been debating on gearing options. comparing actual speeds vs gearing calculator. I find that i run about 104-108 , in 6th  to about 108 then slow after that .  so i think by going to a 48 rear i won't lose any top speed since i will be able to rev higher and pull the weight better. (my 260 lbs doesn't help)  And is it just me or when in map 2 yes it hits harder down low but loses up top. slower 8000-9000.  map 3 smoother but rev's to 9000 easier?  btw 2014 model

What Broke? / squealing noise
« on: May 07, 2015, 08:50:05 pm »
I have 250 ish miles on my 2014..  first day riding i noticed a strange squealing noise coming out the exhaust. its more noticeable when started up and shutting off. I read that the 690's have issues wearing out the rocker arm bearings. anyone here have similar issues? between this and the cam chain tensioner issue it seems that they need a high volume/pressure oil pump. Does anyone know if anyone makes one?

picked up the power commander v and auto-tuner.  I was just wondering what you thought of removing the stock 02 sensor and welding the new one there? I have heard that some plug the stock hole, but i think the new one would fit there nicely.
