Good for you, each time I look at that rack I wish I had it instead of just a Nomadic Rack  :P

Ok then, I've been doing it correctly then. Yeah, agreed, the 690 is fairly easy-level maintenance so far.  :P

So I haven't been putting slack in the timing chain prior to doing valve checks. Does that mean I'm getting a bad reading? I just have the stock chain adjuster, but it'll be replaced soon enough.

I'm an Engine Ice customer. Only downside: it stinks like all hell when it boils over  :P

It's fine with the cube on the rack. Nothing melts. The mounting bracket is a PIA to unbolt and remount, so I just leave my cube on there full time now. I just don't load it down with fuel if I'm riding locally.

If I were posed with the same options, I'd go with Perun's rack. I really like the extra spots for straps and whatnot. I got the Nomadic rack and its working just fine, but I woulda gone with Perun's if I'd had the chance.  :P

Racks & Luggage / Re: Rear Rack Weight Capacity for Fuel?
« on: January 11, 2016, 05:22:35 pm »
So I've been rocking the perun kit/ nomadic rack for over a year now. I roll with 30 lbs on it easily. If it's gonna break, so be it. Then I'll go to a frontside gas tank again. Yeah, having that damn fuel tank where it is seems to be a huge ergonomic downside, but it's part of what makes a 690. We just keep adding all sorts of **** to it and expect it to do it's damn job. Well, there's a breaking point for everything. Just get the upgraded bolt kit.  :P

690 Discussion / Re: Burning oil?
« on: December 29, 2015, 04:36:31 pm »
Crazy. I would be spooked to be losing that much oil. I wouldn't ever go on any of my longer journeys if I knew I was burning oil like that. I suppose you could just carry a quart with u if u knew your rate of loss reliably.... But still. It's the premise. I don't think I've ever lost oil like that before except once when the valve guides on my 530 was leaking. U could tell though cuz of the splooge from the pipe. Anyways, to each their own when it comes to remedies for their bike. I just feel fortunate enough to have this website and y'all to fall back on for advice. Good luck bro.

Reaps,
Where'd you get the bulb from? And is it worth the $$$?

Anyone got a suggestion on whom to go through for fork+shock servicing? I'm looking into both options of spending a couple hundred on tools to do it myself, or just send it out every so often. Feedback wanted plz.  :P

What Broke? / Re: Rear brake pedal pivot bolt bad - 500 miles!

The FA209/2 pads are solid. Good braking power no matter the condition. Worth the $35 I paid for them. Next time I spot a good deal for them or the rear 208's I'll snag them off of eBay.  :P
