Sorry for the delay in my reply. Life is sometimes - - uh - hectic!!
The feedback on the RW intake is good to hear. I agree with the idea of easier maintenance is maintenance done more often.
Now if I can convince the fiscal department in my house that a new intake system is a "need" and not just a "want"!   ::)

Well, I can't answer your question about the pannier systems you mentioned but I've seen them on other bikes and they are good quality products.
I ride a 2015 690 Enduro R and didn't want to add too much unnecessary weight. So, I bought a set of the Tour Tech Pannier racks BUT I use them to support soft saddle bags. I also have a Tool Tube mounted on the back side of the rack opposite the muffler. So, if I'm not carrying much in the saddle bags I don't have the weight of the pannier boxes just hanging there.
Might be something to think about.

So, I've looked at the Rottweiler intake for the 690. It looks good. But, . . . . I wonder about intake noise?? Has anyone had an experience with this intake system yet.

So, This website KTM Twins . com carries all things KTM for more than just the twins. I have bought stuff for the 690 from them as well as when I owned my 950. However, in recent days I've noticed that their sub-heading for the 690 Enduro R is gone. They still have the sub-headings for the 690 SMC, Duke and Supermoto - but no Enduro.

Hummm . . . . anyone have any insight??

Has anyone else mounted this wind screen? How does it do with keeping the wind blast off of you at highway speeds? How about when you're off road, does it get in the way?

Ride Announcements / CMA Arkansas Roads and Trails Rally: March 31 - April 3, 2016

I thought I'd post out this rally. There will be some great dual sport riding in the area. I know that's where I'll be.
If anyone is inclined to bring a road bike, well it's Arkansas, there aren't many bad roads.
The rally is also located very near Wolfpen Gap which is one of the largest off-road vehicle areas in this part of the country.
So, if you're not doing anything come to the rally. It is sponsored by CMA but you do not need to be a member to attend.

690 Discussion / Re: Dumb question - tool kit?

The Rally Raid tool box is actually one of the more affordable RR products. I put one on my 2015 690 R. It fit great and holds ALMOST everything in the tool kit. The two axle wrenches are too long to fit in the box. So, you still need to carry them somewhere. I ordered one of the Tool Tubes and mounted it behind the right side of the Tour Tech side racks. Works like a charm and gets the rest of the tools onboard.

I'll throw my 2 cents in. I started pestering the dealer about mid-year in 2014. He told me it would be somewhere around January or February of 2015 when they arrived.
I walked into the dealership on December 27th and as luck would have it, they had one just off the truck, still in the crate. They were not expecting it at all!
I told them to assemble it and I'd be back the next weekend with my checkbook.
This all happened in the Kansas City area.
The lesson is - stay on top of it so you get one as soon as they arrive. They will not sit on the showroom floor. My dealer was expecting about 4 of the 2015 models and they were all sold before the crate was unpacked.

I'm not sure of any other "fixes" for the issue. I bought the KTM dongle that plugs in. I have set my ABS the way I want it (front wheel - ABS enabled, rear wheel - ABS disabled) and everything works. It's that way each time I start the bike and take off. The speedo and odometer all work fine. I know it's $120 dollars. But in my mind this is one of those electronic things that ya just bite the bullet and do it. Then you never look back and there are no mysterious issues on the road.
Once I wrapped my mind around the ABS off-road I like it. Ride into the corner HARD - grab a handful of brake and shut it down. No drama - just ride. What a change from the old DT Enduro days. :)

Just thought I'd weigh in on the ABS discussion. I was in the same camp as some others; the rear brake seemed pretty ineffective on unpaved surfaces (gravel, dirt , etc.). However the front brake was absolutely impressive! This is my first bike ('15  690R) with ABS and I wondered how it would work off-pavement. I sprang for the KTM dongle they sell. Now, when I fire up and take off riding the ABS light does a slow blink. The rear brake will give full power, even to lock up the rear wheel if you want. The front wheel is ABS enables. Grab the that front brake and STOP!! No drama! Knowing how that front end will behave under heavy braking inspires a lot of confidence. We have a lot of gravel and dirt in this part of Kansas and I recommend this setup to anyone looking at the 690.

Introductions / Hello from Southeast Kansas

Good Afternoon,

I just sort of stumbled on this site. It's just the sort of thing I was looking for. I'm on ADVRider and KTMTalk. But often you need to sort through a bunch of stuff to find anything about the 690. Thanks for the site.
I owned a 2004 KTM 950 ADV for about 2 years. It was a wonderful bike but too big for the sort of riding I like to do. In January of this year I traded that in on a new 2015 KTM 690R. WOW! This bike is awesome!
I'm still running stock intake and exhaust. I have added the following touches to the bike:
Tourtech side racks to support my soft luggage.
A Nomadic rear rack with a 1 gallon Rotopax mounted to it.
A Flat Land Racing skid plate.
The KTM ABS dongle.
The KTM radiator guards.
A Tool Tube behind the right side of the Tourtech rack to carry some tire irons and the associated stuff.
I put a Rally Raid tool box on the bike to carry the standard tool kit in.
So, no big changes - just enough to get along well in the back country for a while.
I just received some Enduro Engineering bar risers but haven't gotten them installed yet. Maybe this weekend.

I'm looking forward to reading the tips and issues that we all go through with our bikes. If you are anywhere around the SE Kansas area give me a shout. Maybe we can get together for a ride.

I really like the bike specific forum. Thanks again.
