Title: XR50r - Blind Enduro
Post by: truck11 on April 28, 2015, 12:36:35 pm
Proud dad moment!
One of the local DC area riding clubs held their 'Spring Ride' this past Sunday near Fredricksburg VA (about 2hrs south of DC).  It is set up as a blind enduro, meaning you do a lap and they time you.   You then do another lap and try to match your times.  You are not allowed your own timekeeping device.  The winners are the riders that have their 2 best times as close to each other as possible.   Example - I do the 2 mile novice loop in 12:15 minutes, next guy does it in 7:10 minutes.  Second loop I do it in 11:50, the other guy does it in 8:02.  I win since my times are closer to each other, even though other rider did it faster.   Pretty cool concept. They had a 2, 7 & 14 mile single track woods loops as well as the kids peewee grass track.
I took my son to his first 'race', riding his XR50r.  He's 8 and only been riding around grass fields about a dozen times.    They did there timed event before lunch and then let the kids ride untimed the rest of the afternoon.  The kids track was about 1/4 -1/2 mile grass track, a small tabletop hill and a small section through the woods.    He had so much fun that I could not get him off the track - they ended up taking the track markers down as he was riding!  AND... he came in 4th!  Not bad for his first 'event' - pretty big deal for an 8 year old.
Now I'm looking for a 70, 80 or 100cc bike for him!   ;D

That's cool. Congrats. The blind thing sounds pretty cool too. I may have to look and see if there's one around here.

That's awesome!  My son likes my bike so much, he saved up enough to buy a KX140L.  I love riding with him and we both want to ride the TAT someday.
