Title: Melted Rear Turn Signal
Post by: Rusty Shovel on April 20, 2014, 12:58:21 am
I've heard that KTM couldn't figure out how to not melt turn signals.  Here I am, 1300 miles in, and my turn signal has already melted.

Disappointing that a 2014 model is still suffering from the same simple problem as the 2008's.  KTM has had plenty of time to figure this out.

I just ordered a pair of these:

They're the flush mount signals from sicass racing.  Here's another pic of them mounted on an EXC:

That should stay out of the way of the exhaust gases!  I'll post my review once I install them.

I just melted my turn signal on my trip to Moab, UT over the 4th of July weekend.  I think it was the combination of the 112* heat going through the Mojave desert and the exhaust heat which did it in.  I took a trip up to the Sierra's in early spring and didn't have the problem.  My guess is because of the lower ambient temperatures. Thank God I had a roll of Gorilla Tape in my tool kit.  I wonder if remapping the Fi would stop this problem.  Richening the mixture should reduce exhaust temp.  Any opinions on this would help.

I took the whole tail light assembly off and put this much smaller LED brake light w/ integrated turn signals on.

Don't know if legal in all states. Just trying to make it look more like a dirtbike.

Putting on a Wings exhaust on my '13 got rid on the heat.  The stock one is very hot.

Melted the signal with my Wings exhaust.

hello, newb here.  got my 15 690 a couple of months ago... just put my wings can on a couple of days ago and love it. question, are you guys that are torching the blinker with wings exhaust not running a db killer?  that top pic looks like a wings with no db killer.  its hard to see that happening with the db killer installed since it sends the exhaust downward.  I also have the euro tail kit and mounted the blinkers up a little further away from the exit.  I plan on cutting the db killer flush with the end of the can, don't like the looks of that piece sticking out like that....

I run the "quiet" insert.  The exhaust is aimed right at the lower half of the blinker.  I may try to shorten the stalks of the blinkers to get it out of the heat, or stick some Dynamat insulation on the blinker.

I went with the Sicass Racing turn signals.  They tuck up out of the way.

I love the looks of that, so clean.  I just get that edgy feeling when turning that some dumbass isn't gunna see my blinker tho, even with the stockers.

I had a similar set up on a crotch rocket years ago and got a ticket for it, but I beat it in court  ;D

There are four of us down here that ride together and we all did the same type of taillight integrated thing on our CRF250l or WR250R. Now we all moved to bigger bikes, I swapped to the cleaner look but they had to get the whole set up for their bikes being they were off-road bikes that they had title for the street. A couple have the KTM 500xc-w and the other has a husky 501.  So far we've had no issues with LE but maybe we just haven't came across the right one to give us a hard time..?
