Replying to my own post...

I found some advice on another forum and set to work this afternoon. It's a very simple procedure, remove shrouds, air box, and injector using the Phillips head securing screw and quick disconnect fuel line.

Because I had no injector problems I didn't bother with getting the injector sonically cleaned. I simply used electrical contact cleaner squirted thru both the hose and injector and blasted them clear with compressed air. This was more about the process of removal. That being said I could hear how the bike idled better and smoother after I started it later.

Some things to consider when the Airbox is off the bike...

Check the fuel line where it can rub. I placed a bit of larger diameter hose on the vulnerable area to shield it.
Consider a valve check at the same time. The Airbox is off after all.
If you are swapping to a manual cam chain adjuster the access is there.
A good check of all the electrical connectors is pretty easy at this point as well.
Good time to check/change the spark plug.

Time taken.

Time to remove air box...10 mins (includes removing the seat and shrouds).
Removing injector (gently with this as the screw is soft metal) and fuel hose...5 mins if you include searching for the correct size screwdriver!
Clean...as long as you want or as quickly as an injector service takes.
Refit everything (put a little wd40 on the rubber washer so it seats properly)...maybe 10 minutes or 15 if like me you forget to lift the throttle cable to the upper side of the front Airbox screw and have to take it off again. >:(

All in all I think from now on every time I do an oil change I'll be doing an injector service as well.
