Desmogging

Anyone know a video on how to do this?  Saw a plug on KTM Twins to replace and fool the computer.

Hey ProSlider,

When I removed the canister and other smog paraphernalia, I used this guide from user Barton from ADV:

http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/code-orange-building-up-three-and-a-half-690rs.666269/

Canister info starts at post #7 of the thread.

Also, did a quick Google and here's a vid that wasn't up when I did the removal to mine.

Lastly, I bought my R in Sept. of '14 and removed the smog stuff within the first two months (can't remember when, just know it was off by Dec). Haven't had any issues. I put the block plate on the top of the cylinder, kept the crankcase breather running to the collector box on the left side of the bike and plugged the inlet on the airbox. Everything else was removed and capped. I ended up just making my resistor to stop the FI light from flashing from Barton's guide that I posted above, easy peasy.

I have been in the desmogging mode without asking an obvious question - what is the advantage of desmogging ?

Does this apply to all model years?

Truck11,
I think no one is answering because they don't know.  Maybe narrow to a specific year.

I've seen that '14+ bikes do not have all the smog parts, because of the dual plug.

Mine is a 2014, which was the first year with the fly-by-wire throttle and dual spark plugs, not sure about other years. Also, I removed the smog stuff primarily for weight savings, imo it looks fugly and since the euro versions don't have it, there's something inside of me that yearns to rip it off the bike.

A month or so after I bought the R, I took all the plastic and seat off to plan an upgrade path. After staring at the bike and researching the web, I decided the first round of weight saving was to toss the stock exhaust, battery, passenger pegs, the stock hand guards and smog equipment.

That's why I did what I did to my bike, ymmv.

I ordered the little plug to fool the computer from KTM Twins.  I agree simpler is always better and weight savings is better.  But after watching the video doesn't seem like very much weight is saved by removing the canister and associated plumbing.  Nor does it seem that performance is enhanced.  Still gonna do it. ;D

I guess the 16 doesn't have as much smog crap on it due to the dual spark plugs. I guess they try to burn off some of the pollutants.  I was thinking about removing the canister, but haven't looking into what else I can remove. Anyone do it on a 16?

Your '16 should be the same as my '14.  I removed several things... If I remember correctly it is in the instructions to fit the Rally Raid evo tanks.  Download them and take a look.
