I just topped mine up with a semi-synthetic and it seems to have worked. The viscosity shouldn't matter, but it's easier to top up than to do a complete change. See how it goes. If it doesn't change then do a complete change with a full petroleum or semi-synthetic. I happened to use Yamalube (Yamaha) 5w-40 semi-synthetic, under $10/qt.
