Which turn signals work best?
« on: February 13, 2014, 09:35:16 pm »
Hello fellow 690 riders,
I have the OEM turn signals on my 2011, and I keep knocking them off the rear fender.  Usually it's an easy fix with a small phillips screwdriver, and I'm back on the trail....though inconvenienced!  One time the rear signal came apart at the fender mount, instead of the usual light bulb end.  That was a nightmare to repair out in the trail.  Took me about an hour, and was still wasn't right.  Ended up being held on by zip-ties & safety wire to get home.
So, I'm wondering if there is a durable turn signal on the market that springs back to place when it gets smacked by trees & brush?
FYI...The Communist Republic of NJ does not allow the "Flush Mounted Lights" that were mentioned in a previous post (sold by SICASS).
Appreciate any help.  Thanks!

Will the majority of the cops actually cite you on flush mounted blinkers? I believe its "illegal" here in CA also and I've not been sweated on past bikes even though I run the stock blinkies now.  I don't know any blinkers that won't risk breaking in a lay down (including flush mount) but maybe there is a better choice, good luck!

What about this?

It's the European-style fender and rear LED light.  I imagine you could reuse your stock signals if you wanted to.  I'm considering one myself.  Here's another pic:

Nice eh?  The signals themselves may not be any more durable, but if you hit signals placed that high you've got bigger problems.

They sell them here (pretty cheap too): http://www.ktmtwins.com/ktm-690-parts/ktm-690-enduro-parts/lighting-headlight?product_category=538

Check out how much bigger the stocker is!

There's another tail tidy by R&G, but I've read some nasty reviews for that version.

I don't have firsthand experience but thought these looked good;

or

Being LED if you do rear only they will flash faster then stock but OK, if you replace both front and back with LED you need an accessory as they don't draw the current necessary for the flasher to flash.
