I got the switch from Advance Auto Parts for $40 and installed on my 690 a few days ago.  Works great.  Put a little Teflon tape around the threads and used the o-ring that came with it.  Great mod.  Rode 100+ miles in some nasty offroad jeep type roads and some black top.  Never went over 1 bar above half way.

What was the part # on the box? No advanced auto in canada and cross refrencing is tricky. Thanks!

trooper 08, I will not be home for another week and a half so I can't get you the number off the box now.  You can find the part numbers on another thread either on 690 forum or look on KTMtalk.com.  Can't remember where I got the number.  Good luck.

@randy0017 Wondering if you are still using the temp switch from Advance Auto. Also, is the connector a match to the 690 harness?

yes and yes.  Great fit.  Connects perfectly.  Same connection as stock.  Works great.

Having read this article, it makes me think KTM is using the higher temp switch to help maintain a 230ish temperature to improve combustion and reduce exhaust emission.

I like the idea of keeping engines cool, but is there a tangible gain for using a lower temp switch for the fan other than driving the temp gauge? It sounds like the fan would be running longer too.

Makes me wonder.

You are correct on the reason for the stock temp.

If you ride in south Texas in the summer, you have no problem getting temperature in the engine.
