Radiator Protection (screen) - options and performance
« on: November 25, 2014, 11:49:55 am »
I am in need of a radiator "screen-style" guard for my 690.  I assume it had a plastic one from the factory, but mine came naked when I acquired it used.

It appears as though there are two options: Rally Raid and Cox Racing.  Notes on KTMtwins from a review states that the RR unit didn't flow air as well as factory.  Living in AZ I am in NEED air flow.  I already did the Fan Thermostat mod, but want to make sure air flow is at a maximum.

Any comments, or reviews including other alternatives are welcome.

Way late on this one, but here's a third option from Meca Systems:

I just got one last week. It's pretty wide open, and rather light. I haven't installed it yet, but it should only take a couple seconds.

I ALSO bought their radiator protector bars. Currently frustrated with figuring out how those go together...

I'm not so sure that the Rally Raid flows less air.  I ran mine without shrouds in 90+ degree weather and the fan kept it at the switch temp.  Putting the other fan switch in and the temp stays at that temp.  Previous to that I had been riding in the teens and twenties and the gauge stayed at the temp the fan was supposed to kick in at.

I have the Cox Racing screen.  The temp doesn't run any hotter or cooler than stock.
