I have the Flatland skid & love it.  It's made from brushed 3/16" aluminum & looks like God did the welding..  It's just under 4 pounds making it about 2.5 pounds heavier then the OEM skid. Not bad for the benefits of protection but then there's a side benefit that it's flat on the bottom so you can put the bike on a stand now!  The OEM skid is angled so your bike will fall over if the skid is rested on a flat surface.  Also.. I have the R&G case covers & the left cover did contact the skidplates left "wing" when I first installed it.. A bit of persuasion with a block of wood & a small sledge hammer used on the skid made an adequate amount of clearance.
